Assessment of the BUYENZI Branch

The option for a corner bank is one of the pillars of our business policy.
Launched in 1996, this policy is in its 6th year or implementation.

IBB-News room believes it's high time to assess the Bank branches network through guided visits.

Let's start with Buyenzi branch :

1.Some highlights

Like the branches implemented before, Buyenzi Branch was set up with a two-fold objective:

  • To pursue the decentralization of the Head Office's services
  • To promote the option for a corner bank: to bring the services closer to the clients via available and accessible bank branches.

But also and more specifically, the establishment of the branch has inaugurate a new policy: To contribute to the community-based development by modernising progressively the informal sectors of a great economic vitality in a number of local entities like Buyenzi.

Being the closest suburban zone of the capital, this entity , the most populated of Bujumbura zones (nearly 60,000 inhabitants), is particularly known as a residential and commercial area with nevertheless a predominant commercial status.

It shelters nearly 750 business activities among them: Boutiques, pubs and snack-bars, mills, stores of the breweries products, drugstores, hotels; metal, mechanical and joiner's workshops, hardware, spare parts, soap processing plants, ect…

In addition, it has got the most active market after the Central Market: Ruvumera market.

2. Financial outputs

After only ten months of operations, Buyenzi branch has almost kept up its betting.
Hence, about more than 800 accounts have been opened by merchants operating at RUVUMERA market, among them boutiques owners, crafts men and mechanics from Buyenzi area have launched their bank's first relation.

During the period under review :

  • Buyenzi branch has a cumulated cash flow estimated to MBIF 17,050.0
  • Average cash in hand amounts to MBIF 55.0
  • Average cash deposits are estimated to MBF 35.0 and funds' withdrawal to MBIF 29.0
  • Dailly operations are estimated at about 250 deposits and 247 withdrawals.

3. Business field

In addition to accounts opened during the first ten months, another fact, a social one this time, is a proof that the approach to that part of our clientele is successful: Buyenzi branch is now part and parcel of the area and is associated to the life of populations.

During his daily visits, the branch manager keeps his ear to the needs of the clientele and contributes to the social events like cultural and sports performances.

4. Branch Manager

Since its establishment, the branch is run by Mr Gabriel NTISEZERANA, a young university laureate who has proved himself while he was the Manager of the Central Market Branch, from 1999 to 2000, before he shortly run the Asian area branch, January to August 2001.

Mr Gabriel NTISEZERANA has joined the Bank in 1993, in the Credit Department where he was in charge of the business portfolio, in his capacity as '' Customers Officer''.

He has got the opportunity to welcome high ranking personalities like the U.S Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs or Senior staff members of the Belgolaise Bank.

Married and father of three children, Mr NTISEZERANA is member of Bujumbura Tennis Club.
