Third step of our guided visit in Interbank Branch Network: Quartier Asiatique Branch

1. Background

1998, the bank is 6 years old. It has successfully established branches in the country side: Ngozi in 1996 and Kirundo in 1997, and it is developing in Bujumbura, in some specific client segments: Brarudi products wholesalers, Bujumbura central market and importers operating in the Quartier Asiatique of Bujumbura, ...

On this last segment, the Bank is operating successfully, with an important client portfolio of approximately BIF 2 billion , i.e nearly 25% of 1997 portfolio.

1998, about 50 accounts are opened each week which is a big record given the exiguity of the bank's premises.
Still in 1998, the bank reached the pitch of on aggressive business policy made of full contact operations laundered in 1996, wide range deployments of our business team towards our clients, exchange and cocktail meetings, ...

All these developments will lead to a new business strategy: the corner bank strategy.

The first corner site in Bujumbura will be naturally the Quartier Asiatique.

The Quartier Asiatique Branch will then be inaugurated in May 1998

2. Outputs

The Quartier Asiatique Branch is operational since four years back and has strived to strengthen its client portfolio since its establishment.

From BIF 2 billion early 1998, this portfolio is currently estimated to BIF 6 billion, i.e three times the first portfolio.

While consolidating its client portfolio and as it was expected, the Quartier Asiatique Branch has attracted many customers following the benefits it offers.

About one thousand accounts have been opened since the branch was established.

As a result of the staff mobility policy of Interbank Burundi, the Quartier Asiatique branch has been run by three managers so for : Messrs Jean Marie NKURUNZIZA, Gabriel NTISEZERANA and Mrs Mireille NIRAGIRA. Mrs Mireille NIRAGIRA who is currently running the branch is a young university graduate who joined the bank in July 1998.

Posted at the credit department since she was recruited, Mrs Mireille NIRAGIRA gave proof of analysis and high sense of risk, the reason why she took over the management of the client portfolio which is daily growing important, until she was appointed.

Aged 32, Mrs Mireille NIRAGIRA is mother of 2 children.
