Quartier Asiatique Branch, The Client Portfolio

After the overall presentation of last August 8th , we would like to pursue our visit to the Quartier Asiatique branch and give you a general idea of its Client Portfolio.

1. The Quartier Asiatique

This area which is part of Rohero Zone has been called as such because of its original population of Asian Expatriates who are traditional business people.

The quarter has been progressively populated by national trade dealers and dealers from other countries.

Those trade dealers who are mostly importers, wholesalers and wholesalers direct to the public, supply commodities to the whole country: the central market of Bujumbura and other urban centers in the country, boutiques, etc.

The Bank had already a good number of clients among those traders since early 1998, i.e approximately a two billion Client Portfolio, which is one of the main reasons for the establishment of the Quartier Asiatique Branch.

2. The Clientele

The Quartier Asiatique is the most important merchant area with imports of hardware, cloths, foodstuffs, household products, building materials, all sectors which had remarkably developed these last years.

Hence from 2 billions in 1998, our Client Portfolio is currently estimated at 6 billions making the Quartier Asiatique Branch one of the most important of the network.

Wealth of this Portfolio, the branch is operating today with 2,000 operational accounts and:

  • about 110 M. of an average daily cash in hand ;
  • approximately 120 M of an average daily collection;
  • nearly 98 M of an average daily payments.

The Branch manager Mrs Mireille NIRAGIRA says, " While being big credits' consumers, due to the import activities, our clients visit also our branch almost everyday, at the rate of supplies to the whole country, i.e liquid credits with a low rate of outstanding payments"
She adds: "My clients highly appreciate the safety ensured by their corner branch, the time saved and the confidentiality ensured by our fittings".
