The Jabe Branch: The Client Portfolio

Second step of our visit of Jabe Branch: an overview of its Client Portfolio.

1. Location

Jabe Branch which is established in Bwiza quarter also serves a next door area called Nyakabiga where there are several commercial activities.

The two zones populated by 50,000 inhabitants , a population which is comparable to that of GITEGA the second city of

Burundi ,where more than 1200 businesses and handcrafts are operating among them food boutiques, Brarudi products stores, mills, garages, mechanical workshops and woodwork, spare parts shops ,pubs and snack bars, night clubs , etc…

The two localities are also served by the market of Jabe which used to be the most busy after the Central Market of Bujumbura. The market of Jabe which was fired in September 2000 is recovering its dynamism while awaiting its reconstruction and modernisation.

Considering that business portfolio , the Bank Management thought it worth to establish its branch at Jabe ,a branch which is growing fast and becoming the key factor of the modernization of the city.

2. The client portfolio

After nine months , Jabe branch is operating with:

  • nearly 650 operational accounts;
  • a credit portfolio of 50 clients;
  • a daily cash payment of 18 MF;
  • daily withdrawals of 10 MF;
  • and an average daily encashment of 25 MF.

A good start as the branch manager ,Mr Jean Marie Nkanira, says " the business relations are increasing rapidly, the economic operators are considering our branch as their corner bank ,a convivial and welcoming one that they appreciate".

Adding that, "once the Jabe market is reconstructed and the Avenue de la Jeunesse paved, the business in Bwiza and Nyakabiga areas , the commercial activities will increase a great deal."
