Brarudi counter : 10 years of partnership with the first enterprise in the country.

The pursuit of our series of assessments of Interbank Burundi doings during its first decade with, today, the visit to the Brarudi counter. 1. Background. A first leg of the Bank towards the clientele, the Brarudi counter has started its operations since June 1993, i.e. 6 months after the opening of Interbank Burundi, January 4th the same year. At that time, Brarudi sheltered the only counters of the credit Bank of Bujumbura, the Commercial Bank of Burundi and the Meridien Biao Bank Burundi.

2. Assessment

Very quickly, thanks to a strong trading activity towards the direct clients of Brarudi comprising notably visits to their distribution depots and several cocktails of exchanges, Interbank Burundi has become the major partner in the distribution of the products of Brarudi group and in its funding.

This, in 1997, i.e. some five years after establishment of the Brarudi counter, the Bank was representing nearly 60% of daily purchases of the wholesale clients with a clientele portfolio of more 50 wholesalers.

Those performances have led the Interbank Burundi to the computerization of that counter linking it to the central system and requested and got from the Central Bank the authorization to the counter to handle all the domestic operations in favor of the direct clients of Brarudi.

From a simple counter, the Brarudi counter then became a fully operational banking counter.

It was in 1998 and the average daily collection raised to 80 M.

From that position on the Brarudi products distribution market, fed by several trading activities, very strong relations of partnership with Brarudi were born, be it in the management of its financial service, in the funding of its local needs or in the field of importation.

This company thus holds a personalized Interbank Burundi corporate check - book, with its leading product brand : Primus beer.

Due to that partnership, Brarudi and Interbank Burundi have co-sponsored the last regional tennis tournament in Bujumbura on April 3rd to 6th and the Bank offered a cocktail in honor of Mr. Peter Van Brecht, outgoing Brarudi Managing Director who is leaving Burundi.
