Interbank
Burundi counter at the Administrative Building
While inaugurating
the Interbank Burundi Bujumbura Port Branch on Friday, January 31st,
2003, the Bank was launching the second phase of the coverage of
Bujumbura with branches or counters on sites.
During the following
month, two new banking counters were opened, after the one at the
Brarudi in 1993, at the Bujumbura international Airport and Novotel
Hotel.
It is in the
framework of this new approach that the Bank has opened recently
a fourth banking counter fully operating at the Administrative Building,
sheltering the Ministry of Finance.
1. Why opening
a counter within the Administrative Building ?
 |
Interbank
Burundi distribution strategy is centred on a network of branches,
which are eleven today, including the Central branch at the
Headquarters, and three operating banking counters to-date.
Two operating
sites of this network, notably the Bujumbura Port Branch and
the counter at the Bujumbura International Airport, aim among
other things at facilitating transactions between economic
operators and the Public treasury in terms of payments of
various duties and taxes.
|
An objective
which was partially fulfilled while a big part of those duties and
taxes are paid to the tax collector of the Ministry of Finance.
Hence, at the
end of the fiscal year 2002, duties and taxes paid to the collector
were amounted to 74,323.4 M out of a total fiscal returns of 93,737.9
M, i.e. nearly 80 %.
|
An objective
now fulfilled with the establishment of a banking counter
at the duties collector office within the Administrative Building
on May 19th, 2003.
We believe
indeed that a good number of tax-payers, clients and non-clients,
for reasons of facility and rapidity, will use from now on
the channel of Interbank Burundi counter during their payment
operations, bearing in mind that the collection offices are
often crowed, particularly at the end of periods of declarations.
|

|
As a matter
of fact, since the counter is connected to the central computer
set up and the whole network in continuous and real time, all tax-payers
can now make their payments to the tax collector by cash deposits,
transfers or certified checks directly on the collector's account
at our new counter, in good time.
2. Assessment of establishments on sites
Beginning from
the very first establishment on site, Brarudi counter, the branches
and counters on sites, at Novotel Hotel, Bujumbura International
Airport or Bujumbura Port, all have been good investments.
Indeed, while
the average daily collection is estimated at 100.0 M at the BRARUDI,
average daily deposits amount to 60.0 M at Bujumbura Port, 10.0
M at Bujumbura International Airport, all currencies included, and
25.0 M at Novotel Hotel.
In the same
time, certifications of checks are made to the customs collector
for nearly 75.0 M and 30.0 M per day respectively at Bujumbura Port
and Bujumbura International Airport.
This performances
have also motivated the establishment of the Interbank Burundi counter
at the tax collector's office.
3. Supervision
of the Administrative Building Counter.
| The
Administrative Building Counter is run by Mrs Ndihokubwayo Seconde,
an intermediate staff officer with enough experience in banking
operations, previously working at the clientele department,
Visa, Reception and Various Operations Section, then worked
as Reception Responsible, at first and until May 18th, 2003
she worked as Visa Responsible. |
|
Mrs Seconde
Ndihokubwayo joined the Bank early in 1993; she is 34 and mother
of four children.
