Assessment of the activities of Bujumbura Port Branch

1. Generalities

The establishment of Bujumbura Port Branch was meant to implement a three-fold objective :

  • to relieve services of the counters in town ;
  • to bring our services closer to the beneficiaries ;
  • to better respond to the expectations of a clientele segment in its relations with the customs administration : importers-exporters.

It is in this line that it has opened its counters on January 31st , 2003 with the ambition to help our clients save their time when dealing with their clearing and export operations.

2. Functioning

2.1. Management

The Bujumbura Port Branch is run by Mrs. Mireille NIRAGIRA who enjoys a good experience since she was Manager of Quartier Asiatique Branch before.

The Branch is also supervised by internal Auditor, Mr. Joseph HICUBURUNDI who reports there every morning to take stock of the situation along with the Manager, but also by the Manager of the Service of the Review of Operations and Administration of Branches through various orientations.

2.2. Operational system

Like all the Branches of Bujumbura, that Branch is computer connected to the Head Office and trim at its counter.

This connection enables all our clientele to deal with all the transactions with regard to clearing operations and settlement of other fees as well as other various operations.

3. Réalisations.

After a little more than five months, Bujumbura Port Branch enjoys an average daily treasury of 60.0 Million ; 40 accounts are already opened.

During the period under review :

  • the average deposits are amounted to 67.5 Million and that of withdrawals to 45.0 Million ;
  • average daily total operations are 307;
  • and the total number of certified checks in favor of the customs administration are amounted to 5.876,3 Million.

4. Prospects

Considering the good start noted during the five months of activities, we believe that prospects of growth are good for Bujumbura Port Branch due notably to the project of the Ministry of Finance to open a customs Collector's account in the books of commercial banks.

Attendant measures and initiatives are underway, among them canvassing visits in all the commercial entities operating around the branch.
