| Opening
an Interbank Burundi Branch at Makamba
| Restricted
for a long time in Bujumbura, in the northern region and central part of the country,
compelled by commercial and security reasons, the geographical extension of Interbank
Burundi network distribution had marked a new direction in 2003, with the implantation
of the first branch in southern region, namely at Rumonge in July 2003.
| |
| The
implantation was at the same time to inaugurate the return to the national coverage
of our distribution chain. One
year after, Interbank Burundi has just implanted its second branch in the southern
part of the country, precisely at Makamba in the beginning of August 2004, encouraged
by good results made by Rumonge branch and the requests from the surrounding centres. |
1.
Why a Branch at Makamba ? Makamba
is one of the most animated centres of the country; a rich centre of an old business
tradition owing to its position at the Tanzanian border, a country with which
it holds an important flow of exchanges in terms of goods. Besides,
this centre enjoys the following advantages: - A
modern market which was recently rehabilitated, frequented by businessmen from
MAKAMBA, BURURI, RUTANA and even BUJUMBURA for which it is the largest supplying
and distribution centre in the southern part of the country;
- A
prosperous business of agricultural products such as cassava which makes Makamba
the granary of the country; beans; the groundnuts or the maize;
- A
very sustained commercial activity in the small peripheral urban centres or centres
at the border of Tanzania such as Kayogoro, Makamba and
Nyanza-Lac.
Advantages
which, conjugated to the importance of Interbank Burundi network distribution,
have allowed the bank to perform important segments of the clientele whose requests
have notably motivated the implantation of that branch at Makamba. The
implantation allows us to enlarge our national coverage by the southern part of
the country and will reinforce existing synergy between our customers from north,
centre, Bujumbura and those from the south whose commercial activities are in
close interdependence.
2.
Management of the branch The
management of Makamba Branch has been confided to Mr Magnus Niyonzima, previously
head of the branch at Asiatique Quarter in Bujumbura from July 2003. A
university executive who evolved in the loan Department, Mr Magnus Niyonzima has
acquired a large experience in the inter-agencies operations notably by working
at Bujumbura Central Market Agency. He
is currently 32 years old and is married with two children.
